Create Your Own Earthquake Cake at Home

Earthquake Cake made approachable with clear cues, pantry staples, and flexible swaps.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped nuts e.g., pecans or walnuts
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare a 9x13 inch baking pan by greasing it lightly.
  3. Mix the chocolate cake batter according to the package directions.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture over the top of the chocolate batter, then swirl with a knife.
  7. Sprinkle shredded coconut and chopped nuts on top of the batter.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before slicing.
