Crispy Pretzel Chicken with Creamy Mustard-Cheddar Sauce made approachable with clear cues, pantry staples, and flexible swaps.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 cups pretzels crushed
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1/2 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare the chicken by tenderizing it lightly and seasoning with salt and pepper.
  3. Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with crushed pretzels mixed with smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, shaking off excess, then dip into the egg mixture, and finally coat in the pretzel crumbs.
  5. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat, then fry the chicken for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  6. Transfer the fried chicken to a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through.
  7. In a separate saucepan, combine heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and shredded cheddar cheese over low heat; stir until cheese melts and sauce is smooth.
  8. Serve the crispy pretzel chicken drizzled with the creamy mustard-cheddar sauce.
