Unroll the pie crusts on a clean surface and cut each crust into quarters.
Place a quarter apple onto each pie crust piece, then fold the crust around the apple and seal it tightly.
Arrange the wrapped apples in a baking dish and set aside.
In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat; then stir in water and remaining sugar to create a syrup.
Pour the syrup over the arranged dumplings in the baking dish.
Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the apples are tender.
Let the dumplings cool slightly before serving; drizzle with leftover syrup if desired.
